Last month (June 2016), Honda associates were mingling with members of the local community in Tallapoosa, Georgia at the 10th anniversary celebration of Honda Precision Parts of Georgia, LLC (HPPG). The facility opened in 2006, with a staff of 179, manufacturing the old five-speed automatic transmissions.
In 2012, HPPG upgraded, and began producing the newer six-speed transmissions found in models like Honda Odyssey, Pilot, and Ridgeline.
Currently, the Georgia-based plant employs 500 associates, and has an annual capacity to build 375,000 transmissions. To-date, around 2.7 million units have been produced just from HPPG alone. Since opening its first transmission plant in the United States in 1989, Honda has manufactured over 21 million units.
Masahiko Kayama, president at HPPG, had this to say on the occasion: "We have made great strides during the last decade and our associates have been a driving force for our success here in Tallapoosa. Our future is bright and we look forward to sharing even more accomplishments with our associates and the local community as we continue to make high quality products for our customers."
