On January 24, 2015 Honda sponsored the 13th Annual Battle of the Bands or the quickly hash tagged #BOTB where the Top 8 of America's HBCU's bands battle it out for the title of the best. This annual event showcases the bands appreciation of music and precision. Attended by nearly sixty thousand people, these 2,100 band members went head to head wowing the crowds with their tunes, formations and we cannot forget their dances moves. Natives like Bethune Cookman University, who appeared for their tenth year made way for the first timers Howard University's Showtime Marching Band and Talladega College's Tornado Marching Band. With this event Honda has provided more than $200,000 in grants to participating schools to assist with music education and this years' theme being "March On" motivating students to continue to pursue their dreams even though they may be facing difficulties.
The 1st ever Honda Power of Dreams Award was given to Ms. Audrey Stradford for her lifelong dedication to serving HBCU students and the Tennessee State Community. She was awarded a brand new 2015 Honda CRV, a definite way to ride off in style for your continued service. The audience was in for an EPIC treat by Hip Hop greats Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick that put on quite a show as they rocked the crowd as they did back in the days of the "Get Fresh Crew". The competition was kicked off by the awesome vocals of actress Demetria McKinney, singing the national anthem as the aforementioned and seven other bands took to the field. It is such an honor to be voted into this invitational and know that being here, everyone is a winner in showcasing their hard-work and talent. So always remember "The future belongs to those who believe in their dreams" and Honda believes in those who embrace this, I'm sure we all cannot wait until the next one but until then tune in March 21-25, 2015 as Honda hosts the 26th installment of the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC) Nationals in Torrance, CA.
