Happy Birthday Honda Civic

Guess who is turning 39? That's right, and the latest incarnation of the Honda Civic promises to be one of the best yet. The 2012 Honda Civic lineup is comprised of 11 different variants. While they all carry the essence of the Civic, each offers something a little bit different.

For the safety-minded traditionalist there's the 2012 Honda Civic Sedan. For the sportier traditionalist, there's the 2012 Honda Civic Si Coupe.

California drivers of the current Civic GX compressed natural gas (CNG) - powered Civic and all-new Civic Natural Gas will continue to have access to the High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) highway lane until January 2015. Honda is the only OEM currently selling in the United States a dedicated CNG-powered light duty vehicle designed and manufactured for retail sale. As an Inherently Low Emissions Vehicle (ILEV), the Civic Natural Gas qualifies for White Clean Air Vehicle decals, which are available in an unlimited quantity. Yellow Clean Air Vehicle decals for hybrid vehicles expired on July 1, 2011.

"Civic GX drivers in California have long enjoyed the benefits of driving a compressed natural gas vehicle, whether it was saving time commuting in the carpool lane, paying lower fuel prices, reducing dependence on oil or reducing their CO2 footprint," said Elmer Hardy, senior manager of alternative fuel marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "With the all-new model coming this fall, drivers will continue to earn these benefits along with additional commuter-friendly features."

The 2012 Civic Natural Gas model receives innovative features consistent with the entire all-new Civic lineup. The new "intelligent" Multi-Information Display (i-MID) provides a convenient platform for integration of vehicle information and compatible personal electronics with a driver-oriented 5-inch color LCD display and intuitive steering wheel controls. Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for compatible mobile phones and a USB audio interface for compatible music players are also standard. For the first time ever, the Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System with voice recognition and FM Traffic is available in the Civic Natural Gas. The navigation system database uniquely includes retail CNG fueling locations.

The Civic Natural Gas (named the Civic GX from 1998-2011) has a Honda-estimated city/highway/combined fuel economy rating1 of 27/38/31 miles per gallon (gasoline-gallon equivalent). Compared to the 2011 model, city fuel economy improves by 12.5 percent, and highway fuel economy is up by 5.5 percent. The Civic Natural Gas includes Honda's ECO Assist technology, an innovation that can enhance efficient vehicle operation at the touch of a button while also providing visual feedback to promote and confirm an efficient driving style.

Drivers of compressed natural gas vehicles enjoy a growing public station network, for convenient and economical refueling. California has the most robust compressed natural gas infrastructure in the nation, with over 110 public stations located throughout the state. From a value standpoint, when purchased at public fueling stations, natural gas historically has cost about 30-percent less per gasoline-gallon-equivalent (GGE) compared to gasoline.

Demand for the current Civic GX in California has been unprecedented, with sales tripling for the first half of the year compared to the same period last year. Interested customers in the new 2012 Civic Natural Gas are encouraged to visit their local qualified Honda Natural Gas dealer.

Honda of Concord: A Customer's Review

Wes,

Thank you for your e-mail. I just want to say that my wife and I are so excited to take deliver of our new Pilot today at Honda of Concord. I've always dreaded going to look at cars, but my experience yesterday could not have been any better, Victor was courteous and respectful of my time and the fact that we got a deal done and I was out of there in 2 hours is incredible. Having owned Hondas before, I am so glad to be back driving one now. They are great cars and the service at your dealership in my first visit yesterday was top-notch. It's too bad that more dealerships don't follow your staff's example of how to deal with customers, listen to their needs and work with them in a courteous way. I guess if they don't catch on, just keep doing what you're doing and you will have customers for life.

Thanks again and we can't wait to pick up our Pilot this afternoon.

Honda's trials and tribulations in the aftermath of the notorious March 11 earthquake and tsunami are well known at this point. This is having an effect not only on dealers, but consumers as well.

Honda empathizes with consumers; and, in the spirit of having consumer's back, has decided to honor national discounts on sold-out vehicles. In describing the new incentive campaign, officially coined the "Honda Promise", Honda says," You may be concerned about…

Over the month of June, we held a Best Pet Photo contest via our Honda of Concord Facebook page.  The winner of this contest--which was judged by all of our Honda of Concord Fans through "liking" their selection for best photo--was awarded with a $500 donation to the charity, religious, or educational institution of their choice.

Even though all of the participants were exceptionally cute, it was Valerie Bright, a Graduate Student at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, who submitted the picture below of one of her two pet hedgehogs who won.

Rutherford the Hedgehog:

On July 7, 2011, Honda of Concord New Car Director David Pierce, Honda of Concord CDC Manager Bill Farren, and Contest Winner Valerie Bright made the trek to south Charlotte to deliver the $500 donation to her charity of choice.

Bright selected Samaritan's Purse charity Operation Christmas Child.  For those unfamiliar with Operation Christmas Child, it is an organization thats primary concern is spreading Christmas Cheer and the message of Christianity to the less fortunate children throughout the world.

Valerie and our Honda representatives met with Deirdre and Jennifer at the Operation Christmas Child office, and introduced them to the friendly and curious hedgehogs that won our contest: Rutherford and Baskerville.

Anyone can contribute to this amazing cause by filling a shoe box with non-perishable, child appropriate items that will ignite the hearts of desolate children everywhere.

In addition, Honda of Concord encourages everyone in our community to seize the opportunity to volunteer with this important organization by calling 1-800-442-9120 for volunteer registration beginning August 1 at 8:00 a.m.  Jobs at the processing center for volunteers vary and are available for all ages with supervision.

Congratulations to Valerie and Operation Christmas Child!

Be on the look out for our next contest--coming soon on our blog and our Facebook page.
